50 Cent's Home, Estate of the Day

Today's estate in Farmington, Conn. is one of the legendary symbols of excess. Mike Tyson owned this home in the past but it currently belongs to 50 Cent, who bought it for just $4.1 million. Tyson's ex wife originally wanted $25 million and so the home was a bit of a discount considering that is has more than 50,000 square feet of space.
Fiddy is said to have spent a few million on the house but as the Real Estalker Mama mentions, it's hard to find it when looking at the photos of the place. It seems to be completely devoid of taste and personality. Sure it's got a disco the size of many homes but the overall effect is rather bland. The home has 19 bedrooms, four kitchens, a movie theater, full gym, five Jacuzzis and an indoor shooting range. The pool area is P.I.M.P. -worthy with an infinity pool and a Playboy Mansion-style grotto but the interior of the house seems to be decorated more like a businessman's hotel than a rapper's paradise. Sure the two-story lobby is lavish and there is a dining room with a Baccarat chandelier and a formal living room overlooking a one-acre koi pond, but overall, this place disappoints. It is listed at an ambitious $18.5 million. After the jump, I'm guessing the fountains are all Tyson's legacy.
UPDATE: This home is still on the market for $14.5 million.

I've taken the liberty of correcting the spelling/grammar in the post by "antoinette wise"
"I just finished reading your comments about 50's house. I found it to be beautiful. You stated it looked more like a businessman's hotel than a rapper's paradise. First of all, are you stereotyping rappers? What is a rapper's home supposed to look like? Bullet holes in the walls? The man is a business man. If this is his taste in decor, so be it. You're selling the house not what is in it.
Actually most homes of this caliber are sold furnished; so I doubt the decor was chosen by Fifty Cent but instead retained from Mike Tyson's stewardship. The problem is the home is so ostentatiously large that the dated, spartan appointments make it feel cold and uninviting. The lounge / piano bar looks straight out of an interstate-side Holiday Inn, complete with tacky brass railings. It would probably take more than the initial purchase price to properly renovate / decorate.
Focus: The property could be turned into an exclusive spa / rehab facility without much effort.

Henry,
Thank you for providing a well thought out point. I like your focus. Please continue to edit posts in the future.

First off. How do you know the following?
"so I doubt the decor was chosen by Fifty Cent but instead retained from Mike Tyson's stewardship."
Did you take a guided tour of the place? Did you have somebody go inside and reference this information to you?
Casting judgement based on some out-dated pictures does not do fair justice on the house.
This house has been vastily upgraded and re-done, just based on the things you mentioned.
And yeah, you never answered the question about how a rapper's house is supposed to look, which was asked to you by the first commenter.
You try to fault the house because it has classy elements.

Maybe Modelling is not my calling., I should turn to a life of crime selling drugs and doing drive by shootings and getting myself stabbed and shoot at so I can become a talentless rapper in order to get myself a record deal so I can get one like this...

I think it's lovely. Not too overdone. Kinda cold on the inside, wouldn't call it "homey". But the light hits it well, and makes it seem comfortable enough.
Love the pool, love the pond and gazebo. Nice place to live and play. Not your usual tacky McMansion.
djmainevent May 21st 2007 10:10AM
someone explain to me what the rapper's paradise is "supposed" to look like.
note: if he was really talentless the house wouldn't be his. i'm not defending him, just stating facts.

18.5 million? Hmmm it may not look the way you want it to, however, I don't see you purchasing it? And how much is your home? I don't understand what the deal is? It may not be what you want, but if you're gonna be negative about it, why even comment on it. And then if you're selling it, and were getting your cut from it, what would be the issue? A disappointing 18.5, purchased it for 4, ex-wife wanted 25, so tell me, who came out on top? You who have something negative to say referencing this home, I promise you wouldn't say it, if it were given to you. No you would take it, add your own flavor to the flavor that's here, and be proud to say, I purchased 50 cents house, which was also previously Tyson's. Boy I tell you, people, when will you ever get out of the JEALOUS mentality of someone else, and just be happy, and move one! GROW UP!

The one major thing this home lacks is "soul." And not the James Brown, R&B, variety.
Rich May 21st 2007 4:09PM
FWIW, and not to sound TOO ostentatious, given the present circumstances, I probably could afford this house. Would I want it? Absolutely not. It is a cavern, an architectural and design white-elephant. I agree with the "soul" issue.
I wonder why Curtis, a single man, needed 19 bedrooms, four kitchens, and 48K sq. ft? Just because you have money, doesn't mean you have to spend it...unless you're compensating for something else.
Give me a 5K sq.ft. 4 bedroom house w/ guest house at the Yellowstone Club, please....

I agree with some of the comments the posters made. I hate that he spend so much money on a crib being that he is a single person but it is his money so he can buy what he wants to. If I were that rich, I wouldn't be so wasteful and glutness because I would think about all the starving and homeless people in the world and spend some of those millions building homes for them. I agree with the fact that the house does have a kind of casino or cruise shi, but again but to each its own. I’m glad I didn’t help contribute to none of his millions.

You guys are straight up losers you know daym well if this was your soon to be home you wouldnt not bitch so shut the hell up and stop being jealous
arcsine May 21st 2007 5:14PM
...I'll remember to never, ever bring up race on Luxist in the future. Hooooo-leeee shit.
Also, that ballroom is dated as hell and must not be considered in the $14,400,000 price hike. Maybe New Line would buy it to film Boogie Nights 3 in there.
ns143 May 21st 2007 6:49PM
"ME", you are right on point with your comments. As for "Rich" who claims he could probably afford this house, SURELY you must be familiar with the term "INVESTMENT". But maybe not, so here you go: noun 1. the investing of money or capital in order to gain profitable returns, as interest, income, or appreciation in value.
Hmmmm BUY for 4 mill, SELL for 18.5..... sounds like an investment to me!
Dream May 21st 2007 7:03PM
I know some people here are posting with jealousy, anyway you failed to answer the question, what is a rapper's home supposed to look like?
People are criticizing his choice on buying a 19 bedroom house, maybe he bought it so he could sell it down the line for more profit like he's doing now, don't people in real estate do this all the time? If you could pay less for a house and sell it for over 10 times the money you paid, wouldn't you buy it?
Maybe he bought it so he could have lots of family over, I mean who cares? Why does that matter?
Like I said, I smell a lot of jealousy!
P:S to the person that's glad they didn't contribute to his millions, guess what? He's missing your $100 or so, so instead of the $40million or so he made last year, he could've made $40,000,100...wow!
Rich May 21st 2007 7:06PM
Uhhh...yes, I've heard of "investments" but certainly appreciate the abbreviated tutorial. I will also appreciate your commentary when we see the price for which this house actually sells.
BTW, since when did criticism automatically imply jealousy? Critical readership?...hmmmm

wat a house. i dont care wat none of ya'll say, nobody wud complain about living in a crib like that.
nadege May 22nd 2007 9:50AM
It is a nice house, but it is too much space; the decor is not my taste but to each his own. The money spent on this could help many poor U.S. citizens (black or otherwise) or people around the world. And about his talent, I am not negating his talent (since I don't listen to rap) but lets face it talent today is not what it use to be.

Its a beautiful house!!! What is everyone making such a fuss about. If you had nothing all your life, then thru hard work were able to purchase a piece of property like this...I'm sure you would! I know damn well I would & move my whole family into! It would be our family compound. But that's just me. It is a little cold, but it just needs some love. Let that man buy & sell whatever he wants to & leave him alone!
DAMN!!!
